Your Orlando Engagement Photo Questions, Answered

Congratulations on your engagement! This is an exciting time, filled with romance and planning for the wedding. As an Orlando Engagement Photographer, I always advise my couples that one of the first things you will want to do is plan your engagement photography session. In this blog, I’ll give answers to your biggest questions around when to take engagement photos and what to do with them.

When to Take Your Engagement Photos?

Timing is everything when it comes to your engagement photos. Getting engagement photos taken early is necessary. Most couples choose to have their engagement session well before they hire their wedding photographer. This is because you will want to use the photos in various ways throughout the lead-up to your big day. (I’ll give examples of how to use them next!) Plus, having your session early means you won’t be rushed, and you’ll have plenty of time to get comfortable in front of the camera.

What Can You Use the Photos For?

Engagement images aren’t just for fun – they can be incredibly functional throughout your wedding planning journey. My couples use their photos over and over. Here are some of the most common ways to use them.

Engagement Announcement Online

One of the first ways you can use your engagement photos is to announce your engagement online officially. Yes, of course, you’re going to do a quick relationship status update on Facebook with some cell phone photos. But your engagement deserves so much more than that. Sharing professional images on social media is a great way to celebrate this time and get people excited for your big day. Post them on Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok for your loved ones to share in your joy.

Save the Date Cards

Save-the-Date cards are what you send early to invite people to your wedding, so they can clear their calendar for your day. You can personalize them to you as a couple and hint at the style of your wedding. Your engagement photos can be a perfect addition to your save-the-date cards. Use a photo from your engagement photoshoot as the image on your card. Then, guests get a nice invitation and have a beautiful photo of you they can hang.

Decor at Your Wedding

Why not incorporate your engagement photos into your wedding decor? You can use them in a variety of ways, from table centerpieces to a photo display at the reception. I have even seen guests get wall art printed of their engagement session for guests to sign. This adds a personal element to your wedding and gives you a beautiful new work of art to hang in your home to remember the day.

As Christmas Cards

If you don’t plan to send save-the-dates with a photo, another great way to use your images is as your Christmas card. You can create this on many online print stores. It’s a unique way to share your joy and update everyone who isn’t on social media about your exciting news. Plus, it gives you an excuse to send out beautiful, personalized cards to family and friends.

In Your Final Wedding Album

Including your engagement photos in your final wedding album is a great way to tell the complete story. From the engagement to the wedding day, having a cohesive album that showcases your love will be a treasured keepsake for years to come. You can add the digitals to your album before printing or print your favorite photos and hand-make your wedding album. As you look through your photos for the album, you and your partner get to relive the memories from that day all over again.

What Types of Photos Do You Need from Your Session?

Most engagement sessions include a few photos, but what kind of images you’ll need depends on how you want to use them. You’ll want a mix of digital photos you can share online. I also like to encourage couples to get wall art printed. This is something most engagement photographers don’t suggest, but trust me. You’ll want to! By getting wall art of your engagement, wedding, and honeymoon, you can create a unique three-photo display in your home that you’ll want to look at again and again. I call it the “Our Love Story” wall, and all my couples who do it, love it.
