I met Jennifer through a mutual friend. This is her third child, and her first with her husband, Jonathan. The two were thrilled to be pregnant and wanted to get a romantic, maternity session to celebrate.

Planning The Perfect Couples Maternity Session

In her initial consultation, Jennifer told me that she was ok experimenting with color, lighting, and even some tasteful maternity boudoir. She loved my fine art style that mimics classical paintings, like Caravage. Of course, this had my creativity on fire and I couldn’t wait to get into the photography studio.

That feeling grew after learning Jennifer and Jonathan’s beautiful love story. She told me they had known each other since they were 10 years old. While they dated as teenagers, they went separate ways and didn’t reconnect until she was 25. It was instant sparks once again, and the two have been together ever since.

Creating The Look

When it came to helping create a romantic, classic style for the photos, Jennifer’s best friend (and the woman who introduced us) stepped in! Diana Cordoba is a talented makeup artist in Orlando, who specializes in luxury makeup styles for editorial portraits and weddings. She took over as our hair and makeup artist for this maternity session. She used a soft, glam style to highlight Jennifer’s natural beauty.

To achieve the classic style Jennifer wanted, we pulled wardrobe pieces from my client closet. My client closet is a carefully curated collection of pieces that I lend to clients for their maternity sessions.

Jennifer chose a few pieces for her maternity session. For her solo shots and couple shots, she picked a gorgeous black maternity gown to highlight her baby bump and a velvet two-piece set. For her maternity boudoir shots, she chose a lovely red skirt that looked gorgeous against her skin tone and crinkle sheet. The combination left them with several variations to choose from when we sat down to pick out their artwork.
